  • Industrial sectors including CCS/CCU, e-fuels, and small-scale manufacturing are threatened

According to the RISE report commissioned by Region Värmland, about 900 jobs risk disappearing within existing operations in the county if electricity supply continues to be limited. Nearly 1,500 additional jobs may not materialize when new establishments do not locate in Värmland and existing industry cannot grow. Värmland is already missing out on new establishments today due to electricity shortages.

Several municipalities report that a majority of inquiries about strategically important new establishments depend on available electricity, and several have been missed in recent years due to electricity shortages. One municipality states that a missed establishment could have provided up to 600 jobs. Several major industrial opportunities are threatened by today's electricity shortages, including establishments within CCS/CCU, production of e-fuels, and expansion and electrification of industry.

The need for electricity is also large within small-scale manufacturing industry, which delivers to the defense industry and is important for employment outside the larger cities. The numbers are based on conservative estimates, and the report authors assess the dark figure as large. The new reinforced main grid is planned to be in place in almost ten years.
