Region Stockholm is investing approximately 1.05 billion kronor (over 1 billion) in a major upgrade program for 83 of SL's commuter trains, according to reports from Dagens Nyheter and Feber. The upgrade program, which was approved by Trafikförvaltningen in Region Stockholm in March 2026, will focus on replacing and updating aging technical systems. Work is scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2034, with completion targeted by 2034.
