Region Sörmland has issued sharp criticism against the Nyköping-based telemedicine company Blodtrycksdoktorn, alleging the company may have sent patients to unnecessary medical visits and follow-ups, then billed regional healthcare authorities for the services. According to the region, an external review of 170 patient records revealed that 98 percent of all medical notes were deficient.
The company, which specializes in helping patients with obesity and high blood pressure, is one of several digital healthcare providers that Region Sörmland has had examined by an external auditing firm this winter. The investigation reportedly found that patients received more visits and follow-ups than at other healthcare centers.
It does not share the view presented and will analyze the review's basis before commenting further.
Region Sörmland has now urged all regional healthcare authorities to pause payments to Blodtrycksdoktorn until the company responds to the criticism. "When they have responded, we in the region will decide how to proceed, possibly with fines, repayment demands, or whatever we conclude," said Mats Henningsson of Region Sörmland.
Blodtrycksdoktorn has declined interview requests and referred to a press release on their website where they state: "We do not share the picture presented and will now analyze what the people who conducted the review base their opinion on before we comment further." Region Sörmland plans to review two more telemedicine companies before summer.
