Region Norrbotten is set to unveil the first comprehensive results from an extensive mapping of the county's future competence needs. According to a press invitation from the regional government, the findings will be presented at a press conference on March 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Elite Stadshotellet in Luleå.
The event comes as Norrbotten faces what regional officials describe as "historical opportunities and major competence challenges." The presentation will feature key regional education and development leaders including Janus Brandin, Regional Development Director at Region Norrbotten; Kjell-Åke Johansson, Project Leader for Kompetensarena Norrbotten; Martin Bergvall, Federation Chief at Akademi Norr; and Magdalena Ahnqvist Olsson from Lapplands lärcenra.

Following the press conference, participants will have the opportunity to attend the two-day "Framtidens kompetensförsörjning" (Future Competence Supply) conference running March 17-18. The conference aims to bring together businesses, municipalities, educational actors, and authorities to discuss the current situation and how the county can move from knowledge to action in addressing future competence needs.
