Region Kalmar proposes new child medical record rules
Key Points
  • Region Kalmar län proposes new medical record access rules for children and guardians.
  • Regional board approves transport plan, food strategy, and formation of Krösatågen AB.
  • Primary care and emergency department accessibility metrics show strong performance.

According to Region Kalmar län, current rules are unclear and create a gap between ages 13 and 15, where neither children nor guardians have full access. The new proposal will make access simpler and more logical, while better considering children's maturity and need for support. For other e-services, rules become more flexible: children can use them without a fixed lower age limit and guardians can help up to age 18.

Protection of sensitive information is strengthened and healthcare staff can continue to adapt access based on the child's situation. The response is sent to Inera AB. The regional board has approved the regional transport plan for 2026-2037, which has been out for consultation with all municipalities responding.

No comments were made on the proposed list of objects and no changes were made. The board also approved the new food strategy, Växande Värde, which will now be sent for consultation. Additionally, Region Kalmar län, together with five other regions, will form the joint company Krösatågen AB.

The matter will now go to the regional council for decision. In March, primary care in the region had better accessibility than the national average: 86% of patients saw medical staff within three days, compared to 85% nationally. For 1177 by phone, the average wait time was 12 minutes in February, ten minutes shorter than the same month last year.

The region's goal is to answer calls within nine minutes. In March, 52% of calls were answered within that time, compared to 29% in March 2025. 81% of patients in Kalmar County had an appointment for surgery or treatment within the care guarantee's 90 days in March, compared to 69% nationally.

For first visits, the figure was 87% compared to 71% nationally. For return visits within the medical target date, Region Kalmar län is at 88%, above the national average.
