Key Points
  • Region Gotland sells Geab shares to Vattenfall for 532.5 million SEK, making Vattenfall sole owner.

5 million Swedish kronor, making Vattenfall the sole owner of the energy company. The decision was approved by a vote of 49 in favor and 21 against. The vote confirmed the regional board's earlier decision on January 28, according to official sources.

It remains to be seen whether the decision will be appealed to the administrative court. If not appealed, the decision gains legal force on May 28. Officials indicate the transfer will take effect only once the decision becomes legally binding.

Through this sale, Vattenfall becomes the sole owner, and through this, Gotland can finally become part of a larger electricity market area with lower electricity prices as a result. The money we receive will be managed long-term and strengthen Gotland's welfare; exactly how they will be invested, I will return to.

Meit Fohlin, Chair of the Regional Board (Regionstyrelsens ordförande)

Meit Fohlin, Chair of the Regional Board, said the proceeds will be managed long-term to strengthen Gotland's welfare, with specific investment plans still being determined. Jens Storm, Vattenfall's representative on the Geab board, expressed Vattenfall's long-term commitment to Gotland and to Geab's operations and employees.

Vattenfall has a long-term commitment to both Gotland and Geab's operations and employees. The collaboration with Region Gotland in the ownership group has always worked well, and we look forward to continued close cooperation with the region, its residents, and businesses.
