Region Gotland has chosen not to have separate women's and men's saunas in the new Solbergabadet. Instead, a common dry sauna and a common wet sauna near the pools are planned. The decision has been made based on priorities regarding shower facilities to allow more privacy than before, which has been part of the planning stage.
The decision has met criticism. Andrea von Corswant, who is advocating for gender-separated saunas, argues that the solution risks excluding many women and girls. Many young girls, young women, and women will not be able to use the sauna because they feel unsafe in a common environment with unknown men.
Region Gotland is failing here in gender equality goals, according to von Corswant.
