Key Points
  • Record Store Day celebrated on Saturday with early queues for exclusive releases
  • Over 300 shops in UK and Ireland participated with hundreds of exclusive artist releases
  • Taylor Swift was a popular artist, and the day is festive for store owners beyond sales

Music lovers from across the South East were among those queueing in the early hours to grab their favourite vinyls on Record Store Day, with vinyl-lovers in Dorking, Surrey, beginning to queue outside Spin Sounds in South Street from as early as 04:00 BST. More than 300 shops across the UK and Ireland have taken part in this year's global event, and hundreds of artists are releasing titles exclusively available in-store. Taylor Swift has been one of the most popular artists of the day, according to Jason Pollard.

Wilma Olsson was one of those who managed to get what she was looking for. For record store owners, the day is a festive day, not only because they sell more than usual. The shop opened at 08:00.

It remains unknown how many exclusive record releases were made specifically for Record Store Day, what the total sales figures or revenue generated on the day across participating stores were, and which other artists besides Taylor Swift were among the most popular releases of the day.
