The first season premiered last April and is a Western drama set on a Texas ranch, centered on the romance between Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) and Quinn O'Grady (Minka Kelly). Season one revealed the shocking truth behind the death of Staten's son, and the finale saw Yancy (Jack Schumacher) arrive to reunite with his grandfather. The series has drawn comparisons to Virgin River, with some fans claiming it is better.
Season two picks up six months after Quinn's decision to leave for New York, during which she did not speak to Staten. 'In that time, she didn’t speak to Staten at all,' Kelly said. Duhamel added: 'He missed her. Staten has been masking that with his behaviour.' When Staten learns Quinn is back, he realizes his mistakes and wants to make it right, Duhamel said. The showrunner April Blair teased that the world is built out more: 'We’ve also built out the world even more this season.' New details include updates on Lauren and Lucas's relationship, while Yancy is on thin ice with Ellie after a woman claiming to be his wife arrived. Quinn's mother Claire, played by Patricia Clarkson, comes to town with secrets from the past, Blair said. New cast members include Steve Howey as Staten's half-brother Levi, along with Ben Robson and Heidi Engerman. The exact premiere time on July 23 has not been confirmed.
