The council's decision backs an application from 80 families in the village, which will now be processed by the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training. If approved, the Steiner school would become the fourth private school in Rana municipality. Skonseng school currently has about 100 students and has faced closure.
It remains unclear when the directorate will decide on the application or when the new school might open.
