According to sources, Flatout Sweden Rally is organizing the Rally-SM event again in Östersund. The event is one of six total events in the SM series. Together with Sandviken, it is one of the only events held on winter road conditions.
Sverker Jonsson, the competition leader, stated that a small group has worked hard to get a competition event again, and now they got the chance. He added that it feels really fun and is a bit of a fresh start for motorsport here. The competitions started on Friday evening with a well-attended public stage through the motor stadium in Lungre.
A total of seven special stages are driven in the forests around Östersund. The event will conclude at Frösö Park on Saturday afternoon, where the prize ceremony will also be held. Among the participants, there are very few teams from the county.
Sverker Jonsson said that therefore, it is extra important that an SM competition event is now being organized here. He also noted that he is convinced motor interest and young talents exist in the county, but it is a big and expensive step to be able to compete at this level. The exact schedule and timing for the seven special stages have not been disclosed.
Specific measures to increase local participation and interest in motorsport remain unclear. The event is set to wrap up with the prize ceremony at Frösö Park.
