Madera, who played Pote Galvez, told Daily Express - Showbiz that the pandemic cut the series short and that there was a strong possibility of a spin-off for his character. He expressed openness to reprising the role in a potential TV movie, noting that many shows have returned and that he loves the character. The series concluded in 2021 with Teresa Mendoza faking her own death.
It was loosely adapted from the telenovela La Reina del Sur and the novel The Queen of the South. Madera is currently working on season three of Euphoria and other projects.
