Police raid addresses in Karlskoga over suspected insurance fraud

Key Points
  • Police raided multiple addresses in Karlskoga to detain suspects and gather evidence in a fraud case.
  • The investigation targets Santana, a car insurance company suspected of sending fraudulent invoices to hundreds of thousands of car owners.
  • Companies involved are linked to a group with a history of bankruptcies and criminal suspicions, including attempts to place a stroke-affected man in key roles.

Police conducted a coordinated raid at several locations in Karlskoga on Tuesday morning. The operation aimed to detain individuals and secure evidence in an investigation involving the car insurance company Santana, which is suspected of sending fraudulent invoices to numerous Swedish car owners. According to prosecutor Martin Drugge, hundreds of thousands of shipments have been sent out, with millions of kronor paid into the company by over a hundred people.

Several of the companies involved have addresses in a stairwell in Karlskoga where there are no offices or other activities, only a mailbox with multiple company names. The companies are linked to a group of entrepreneurs previously investigated for involvement in various projects, including crypto platforms, real estate, and environmental technology, which have repeatedly collapsed into bankruptcies and criminal suspicions. In recent months, attempts were made to install a man, who now lives in a nursing home after a severe stroke, as a representative for Santana.

He has also been placed in two other companies connected to the group. All involved companies and individuals have denied accusations of crimes and fraud in various contexts.
