A police assistant has been convicted of misconduct for using pepper spray on a handcuffed man during an arrest in Emmaboda, according to reports from P4 Kalmar. The incident occurred last winter during a vehicle check in central Emmaboda. According to court documents, the officer pepper-sprayed a man four times, with the final spray reportedly administered while the suspect was sitting calmly and already handcuffed.

The court handed down a conditional sentence and day fines to the police officer, who was also ordered to pay 10,000 kronor in damages to the victim. The officer was not convicted of assault, which the prosecutor had sought. The man who was pepper-sprayed is reportedly facing charges of two counts of assaulting an official, as he allegedly followed the police officer and drove back and forth outside his residence after the incident in retaliation.
