Since late summer, police in western Värmland have handled five cases of gang recruitment of youths. The youths in smaller municipalities are being recruited to carry out various violent acts for established gangs in major cities. According to Malin Hengärde, group manager at the area police, 90 percent of the recruitment of children and young people to criminal gangs occurs via social media and phone chats.

Hengärde stated that the phone is the important thing to keep an eye on, and that children must know they have to adhere to the rules set by parents, with parents asking about what happened during the day at school as well as what happened during the day on the phone.
