Pogacar's victory extends his dominant season, marking his fourth win in five races this year, three of which are Monuments. He finished second at Paris-Roubaix last month. The win brings him one short of Eddy Merckx's record of five Liege victories.
Seixas, competing in his first Liege and second Monument, impressed by keeping up with Pogacar for nearly 20km on the Cote de la Redoute climb. The winning move had been made on that climb in each of the previous four years, but this time Pogacar made his final attack on the Cote de la Roche-aux-Faucons, 600m from the top.
"It means a lot to win again one of the biggest races of the year," Pogacar said. "On the Redoute climb I was really going deep but on the top, he came next to me and I was like, 'OK, really impressed'. Maybe back in my head, I was already preparing to do a duel sprint because he was so strong." He added: "I tried on Roche-aux-Faucons, I tried to keep my pace... It suits me super well and luckily he dropped."
