Key Points
  • PGA Tour to drop Hawaii events from 2027
  • Rory McIlroy extends break, skipping Zurich Classic and RBC Heritage
  • Zurich Classic field includes Lowry-Koepka, defending champions, Fitzpatrick brothers

According to multiple reports, the PGA Tour will drop its Hawaii swing from the schedule starting in 2027. The Sentry at Kapalua and the Sony Open at Waialae have been annual fixtures for decades, but the tour has decided to move on without them. The exact reasons for the change have not been confirmed.

Rory McIlroy has extended his post-Masters break by skipping the Zurich Classic, according to major media reports. He also skipped the RBC Heritage. McIlroy won the Zurich Classic team event alongside Shane Lowry in 2024, but will not defend the title this year.

The Zurich Classic field is taking shape with new pairings. Shane Lowry will pair with Brooks Koepka at the 2025 event. Defending champions Ben Griffin and Adam Novak will feature, as will Matt Fitzpatrick and his brother Alex.

Robert MacIntyre was reprimanded by Augusta National officials after making a middle-finger gesture at the 15th green during the Masters, according to major media reports. MacIntyre shot an opening-round 80 at the Masters, then carded a 71 in round two but missed the cut at seven over. He declined to speak to the press after missing the cut.

According to Daily Express - Sport, MacIntyre described the gesture as part of his character, saying he needs to release frustration to compete at the top level, though he acknowledged he should try to limit such outbursts. MacIntyre has no intention of reining in his fiery nature, according to major media reports. He is focused on sharpening his iron play and targeting victory at the Scottish Open and a place at the PGA Tour Finals.

It remains unclear what will replace the Hawaii events on the PGA Tour calendar from 2027. The tour has not announced any new tournaments to fill the gap. Additionally, it is unknown whether MacIntyre will face any further disciplinary action from the PGA Tour for his gesture.
