The contaminated sites include Gutavallen in Visby, as well as fire-related locations in Dalhem, Fårösund, Klintehamn, Visby, Fole kvarn, Gutavallen, and a landfill in Ljugarn, the County Administrative Board said. Investigations have primarily focused on fire stations and sites where fires have occurred, though a previous fire site at Fören 1 in Visby showed no elevated values. Stefan Persson, head of the environmental and water unit at the County Administrative Board, noted that sites where firefighting foam has been handled are known risk areas, as PFAS was previously used in such foam.
In response, the board is urging well owners in the vicinity to test their drinking water. Specific PFAS levels at each contaminated site have not been disclosed, and it remains unclear what further actions Region Gotland will decide are needed or how many well owners are affected.
