The panorama, composed of 980 images taken in December 2025 and January 2026, shows the landscape in natural color as the human eye would see it, according to NASA. The rocks in Jezero Crater's rim are among the most ancient in the solar system, serving as time capsules of Mars' early history. Unlike Earth, Mars lacks tectonic plates, allowing such old material to be preserved.
The 'Crocodile Bridge' region marks a transition into an area called 'Lac de Charmes,' which Perseverance will explore for several months later in 2026. Additional versions of the panorama, including enhanced-color and 3D anaglyphs, are available. The rover is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, with Mastcam-Z instrument operations led by Arizona State University.
