Pediatric Cardiologist Accused of Medical Errors in Lund Following Previous Jönköping Incidents
Key Points
  • Pediatric cardiologist Eskil Fagerström made medical errors in Lund after previously incorrectly declaring 78 children healthy in Jönköping.
  • The mistakes in Lund included prescribing wrong medication, missing follow-ups, and discharging overly ill children, according to a clinic review.
  • Fagerström has worked at Barnhjärtcentrum at Skåne University Hospital in Lund since 2021 after his time at Ryhov County Hospital.

A pediatric cardiologist previously criticized for medical errors in Jönköping has also made mistakes at his current workplace in Lund, according to a clinic review. Eskil Fagerström, who has worked at Barnhjärtcentrum at Skåne University Hospital (Sus) in Lund since 2021, reportedly committed errors including prescribing incorrect medication, missing follow-up appointments, and discharging children who were too ill to go home.

The issues were first highlighted in autumn 2025 by P4 Jönköping, which reported that Fagerström had incorrectly declared 78 children with heart conditions as healthy during his time at Ryhov County Hospital in Jönköping. The clinic's own review in Lund has now identified additional mistakes made by the physician at his current workplace.

According to Skånska Dagbladet, the review shows that despite moving to Lund in 2021, similar patterns of medical errors continued. The report comes as concerns grow about patient safety protocols in pediatric cardiology departments across Sweden.
