Passport queues in Helgeland stretch to July

SocietySociety
Key Points
  • First passport appointment in Sandnessjøen on July 1
  • Police advise checking regularly for appointments
  • Some travel to Trøndelag for passports

The first available appointment at the passport and ID office in Sandnessjøen is July 1, Helgelands Blad reports. In March, queues for passports or ID cards in Helgeland were long, and in April the situation is largely unchanged. Many other places in Norway also have longer queues than usual for passport appointments before summer.

The police advise checking for available appointments regularly, according to NRK Nordland. Liv-Anija Koivonen, section leader in Nordland Police District, told NRK Nordland that the police are working to increase capacity, but appointments are not yet available. The waiting time is shortest in Mo i Rana, though the exact duration is unclear.

Check for available appointments regularly.

Some people have chosen to travel all the way to Trøndelag to get a new passport, Helgelands Blad reports. It is not known how many people are affected by the long queues or what the normal waiting time is.

We are working to increase our capacity, but the appointments are not yet available.
