Mayor Grégoire's announcement comes amid reports that 78 school employees have been suspended from their positions since the beginning of 2026, with 31 of those suspensions related to suspicions of sexual assault. The mayor has reportedly shared that he himself was subjected to sexual assault during elementary school, which has informed his commitment to this issue.
The substantial investment is intended to fund several key measures: improved recruitment and training of after-school activity leaders, clearer channels for reporting alleged assaults, and increased transparency with parents.
