Heavy flooding has caused significant casualties in East Africa, with reports indicating over 100 people have died in Ethiopia and Kenya. According to Sveriges Radio Nyheter, 62 people have been confirmed dead in Kenya alone from the flooding. The severe weather conditions, described as torrential downpours, have continued without signs of abating, particularly affecting the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
Many bridges have been damaged and important roads have been closed due to the flooding. Authorities are now urging residents in low-lying areas to evacuate their homes as the risk of further flooding increases with continued rainfall. Rescue operations have been underway, with the Red Cross reporting one incident where eleven people were rescued from a minibus that had become stuck as water levels rose.
