Oslo city council proposes cutting districts to eight
Key Points
  • Oslo city council proposes reducing districts from 15 to eight.
  • New map not among consultation alternatives.
  • Larger districts to gain new responsibilities.

According to multiple reports, the city council has decided on eight districts in the district reform, nearly halving the current 15. The final proposal will be presented to the Oslo city council on Tuesday at 1 PM, though some reports indicate it was already presented in March. Over 400 input submissions were received during the consultation, but the new map was not among the alternatives consulted on.

The larger districts will take on new responsibilities, including health centers, dental services, and more parks and green areas. The largest district, in Groruddalen, will have 114,000 inhabitants. "The postal code decides," said Health City Councilor Saliba Korkunc (H) at a press conference, adding, "We see that in some fields there are vulnerable professional environments."
