  • A new 10,000-square-meter police station is under construction in Örnsköldsvik, set to open in 2028 with a 440 million kronor investment.
  • The police force has grown by 25% in recent years, but remains short of a promised 50 new officers from the Moderates' election pledge.
  • Police chief Dick Danielsson says the current station is cramped and outdated, while the new one will be among Sweden's most modern.

According to sources, the new police station is expected to be twice as large as the current one, about 10,000 square meters. Örnsköldsvik police are expected to move in during the second quarter of 2028. The new construction is about 10,000 square meters with an investment of 440 million kronor.

The main contractor is NCC and the property owner is Kåpan Fastigheter. The new police station is being built on Strandgatan in central Örnsköldsvik, in front of the Paradiset swimming pool opposite the ski jump. Police chief Dick Danielsson said, "With the staff growth we have, it has become cramped and also other flows like the reception and detention operations are outdated.

We are investing heavily in having more police officers visible among citizens. But this also means that we equip these police officers with good vehicles, other equipment, and a good work environment.

Gunnar Strömmer, Moderate Party representative

" He added, "We have become about 25 percent larger, and all who have been added work in external service. " However, Danielsson noted they are still far from fulfilling the election promise of 50 new police officers made by the Moderates before the last election. The exact number of officers hired so far remains unclear.

Moderate Party representative Gunnar Strömmer said, "We are investing heavily in having more police officers visible among citizens. " Danielsson expressed satisfaction, saying he is very happy that the police station project is now only a couple of years away from becoming a reality.

We have become about 25 percent larger, and all who have been added work in external service. So we have increased our staffing significantly over the last three, four years.
