The popular ice skating rink at Krämartorget in Örebro, Sweden, is set to undergo a seasonal transformation into a dance floor as winter gives way to spring. According to reports, the change aims to create more movement and community among young people.
The municipal housing company Öbo, which operates both the ice rink and the planned dance floor, views the transformation of Södercity as positive and wants to continue offering a gathering point for Örebro residents in the southern part of the city center. The exact design of the dance floor is not yet finalized, but the outer fence of the ice rink will likely become the outer edge of the dance area.
The new structure is planned to resemble the rotundas found in many Swedish folk parks. The ice rink will hold its closing ceremony on March 1st, featuring a dance group performance to bridge winter activities with spring and summer events. Linnea Balkander has been mentioned in connection with this community transformation project.
