A 22-year-old man employed by Örebro municipality's home care service stands accused of mistreating elderly patients, including showering a dementia patient with cold water while filming the abuse. According to an internal investigation by Örebro municipality, the man is now facing charges for 44 crimes including assault and invasive photography of elderly individuals he was supposed to care for. The incident involved an 85-year-old dementia patient whose daughter, identified as Lotta, reported that the employee filmed while showering her father with cold water and subjected him to verbal attacks.

The man allegedly laughed and sent the video to another person. The patient's dementia prevented him from reporting the abuse himself, but the incident was uncovered during a police investigation. Örebro municipality has been found to have seriously failed in its responsibility to ensure safe care, according to the internal investigation, which notes that the previously convicted man was hired in elderly care.

The man was suspended from work in November 2025 but returned to service in early December since he was not detained, though the municipality reportedly did not check whether police investigations were still ongoing.
