Approximately one hundred people gathered at Stortorget in Örebro on Wednesday evening for a demonstration in support of Kurds in northern Syria, according to a report from SVT Örebro. The demonstration was organized in response to ongoing fighting between Syrian government forces and Kurdish forces in northern Syria.
Rania Ibrahim, one of the participants, stated: "Even though we live in Sweden and are far away, we want to show that we care about them." The demonstration focused on events in Syria, where bloody clashes between the Syrian government and Kurdish forces have been ongoing for some time.
Even though we live in Sweden and are far away, we want to show that we care about them.
Shahla Ojagh, organizer from the association Kurdiska hem, explained: "We support the Kurdish people and want to show that we are against dictatorship and for democracy." The conflict reportedly escalated after the government and Kurdish groups failed to reach agreements in negotiations over territory, among other issues.
Similar demonstrations in support of Kurds have been arranged in Sweden and Europe in recent days, according to the report.
We support the Kurdish people and want to show that we are against dictatorship and for democracy.
