Oakwood's longest-staying dog Ralph returns after 12 days
Key Points
  • Ralph was returned to Oakwood Dog Rescue 12 days after rehoming due to nervousness.
  • He has become the rescue's longest-staying resident after years of patient work by staff.
  • Staff recommend a pet-free home with an owner offering time, patience, and love.

Ralph first arrived at the Hull rescue centre in 2021 as a frightened six-year-old with a troubled history. Before coming to the UK, he spent time in Romanian shelters where life for stray dogs is harsh, with scarce food, minimal shelter, and gruelling conditions. Staff have devoted years of patient work to help Ralph emerge from his shell and learn to trust again.

He recently went on his first walk after trialling a new harness and loved it. For his 11th birthday, volunteers treated Ralph to a special outing at a secure dog field where he could run, discover scents, and enjoy tea and biscuits. According to staff at Oakwood Dog Rescue, Ralph would be better suited to a household without other pets as he prefers having his humans entirely to himself.

He's beautiful, can't believe he's not been rehomed, bless him.
