A new Byggåterbruket (building material reuse center) has opened in Mörrum, Sweden, offering free exchange of reusable construction materials for both individuals and businesses. The facility, which held its inauguration on February 23, 2026, is operated by Västblekinge Miljö AB (VMAB), the waste management company jointly owned by the municipalities of Karlshamn, Olofström, and Sölvesborg.

Located at the recycling center in Mörrum, the Byggåterbruket allows residents and companies to drop off usable building materials they no longer need and pick up materials they require at no cost. According to Malin Håkansson from VMAB, "This is an initiative for the environment, economy, and society."

The concept, inspired by similar facilities in Karlskrona, Hässleholm, and other municipalities, aims to reduce waste by keeping reusable building materials in circulation. Håkansson explained that for many years, significant amounts of materials that could be reused have been treated as waste instead of being circulated further in society.

The service is available to residents and businesses in the three owner municipalities and represents a three-year planning effort by VMAB to implement more sustainable waste management practices in the region.
