A new battery storage facility is being constructed in Västerås to help stabilize the local power system, according to reports from SVT Västmanland. The battery park will have a capacity of 60 MWh, making it more powerful than the 8 MWh facility inaugurated last year in Hallstahammar. However, the project represents a significant reduction from initial plans that called for a 100 MWh storage capacity.
Henrik Holm, head of Heat at Mälarenergi, stated that the batteries will be used to smooth out power peaks and serve as a resource during major power outages, providing additional security for residents in Västerås and surrounding areas. The investment is being made independently by Mälarenergi, and the battery park will occupy a smaller area than originally intended.

The facility is designed to address grid stability concerns and provide backup power during emergencies, though its final capacity of 60 MWh represents approximately 40% less storage than the 100 MWh initially proposed for the project.
