Key Points
  • A temporary bridge opened in Sunne on March 19 for vehicle traffic only.
  • The bridge replaces the old Sundsbron during renovation until November.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists must use existing footbridges, with extra buses added for safety.

A new temporary bridge in Sunne, Sweden, opened on March 19 to replace the old Sundsbron bridge during its renovation period from March 19 to November this year. The old bridge, which has carried traffic over Sunnesundet since 1951, is in great need of renovation. The new bridge, built by Trafikverket at a total cost of 15,000,000 kronor, is ready for traffic but is only open to motor vehicles, not pedestrians or cyclists.

Pedestrians and cyclists are directed to two existing footbridges over the sound. The municipality has added extra buses from the travel center due to concerns that schoolchildren might not follow the instructions and could walk over the railway bridge instead. Sunne municipality had wanted pedestrian access on the new bridge during the renovation, but Trafikverket lacked all the parts for a pedestrian and cycle path.

The temporary bridge will be dismantled once the renovation of the old bridge is completed in November.
