NSD to cut print newspaper publication to three days a week

Economy & businessEconomy
Key Points
  • NSD will reduce print publication from six to three days a week starting October 1.
  • The change reflects digital shifts and cost pressures, impacting distribution and printing partners.
  • Unclear details on cost savings and job impacts remain as the transition proceeds.

According to major media reports, from October 1, NSD's print newspaper will be published three days a week instead of six. The new publication days will be Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The e-newspaper will continue to be published six days a week as before.

Subscription prices will remain unchanged throughout 2026. The change is due to changing reading habits and increased costs for printing and distribution, with 65% of NSD's subscribers now fully digital. It also affects Norrbottens-Kuriren, Piteåtidningen, and Norran, all owned by the NTM group.

The reduced print frequency impacts the group's distribution business, requiring Svensk Hemleverans to adapt its organization, and affects the printing company Pressgrannar. The news site and app will continue to be updated around the clock. All affected customers will receive advance notice by letter.

' She added, 'We know that many appreciate the print newspaper on Saturdays. ' Mattias Ternstedt, CEO of Svensk Hemleverans, said, 'With fewer print newspapers to distribute, we need to review our staffing and adjust the employment levels for our distributors. ' Leif Bergström, CEO of Pressgrannar, noted, 'Our organization will remain the same, but we need to adapt our routines and processes based on printing fewer newspapers.

' The specific cost savings from the reduction and the number of jobs affected at Svensk Hemleverans have not been disclosed.
