Norwegian Parliament approves Gran's switch to Akershus
Key Points
  • Gran will switch from Innlandet to Akershus on January 1, 2028.
  • Parliament voted 65-36 in favor on Thursday.
  • The switch aims to unite Hadeland municipalities for better cooperation.

The Labour Party, Green Party, Red Party, Conservative Party, and Christian Democratic Party supported the switch, while the Centre Party and Progress Party opposed it. The Centre Party proposed postponing the matter but failed to secure a majority. A 2022 opinion poll showed 51% of respondents wanted to remain in Innlandet, though it is uncertain whether all respondents actually lived in Gran.

Gran seeks to join neighboring municipalities Jevnaker and Lunner, which have already switched to Akershus, to facilitate cooperation on schools, transportation, and dental care. The mayors of Gran, Lunner, and Jevnaker were present in Oslo for the vote. ' The vote was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed.

Gran is an hour outside Oslo, and we of course want the Hadeland municipalities to be gathered in one county.
