Norwegian house prices rise 1% in April
Key Points
  • National house prices rose 1% in April, 5.6% in 2026 so far.
  • Ålesund leads with 10.8% price increase due to strong economy and low supply.
  • Future growth depends on interest rate decisions and housing supply.

8 percent price increase so far in 2026, according to official figures. Henning Lauridsen, CEO of Eiendom Norge, attributed the strong growth to a robust maritime industry, good local purchasing power, and a weak krone. "The reason is, in short, that the region is doing very well," he said.

Real estate agent Audun Sjøholt in Ålesund told NRK Møre og Romsdal that the main cause is too few homes for sale, which puts pressure on listings and drives up bidding rounds. Lauridsen agreed that improving company and labor market conditions are boosting demand, making people more optimistic and quicker to buy. Looking ahead, Lauridsen said that if the key policy rate rises, it would dampen growth, but the effect in Ålesund would be small due to strong purchasing power.

The supply is simply too small. We would like to have more people willing to sell. That puts pressure on what is listed, and often bidding rounds. That is the main reason this year.

According to NRK Møre og Romsdal, Sjøholt believes there is still room for price increases in the area, at least if interest rates are not raised. The outlook remains uncertain ahead of Norges Bank's rate decision on Thursday.

There is still too little for sale, too little is being built, and there is natural pressure on the used market as it is now.

It may not be as steep a rise as the first part of the year, but that it will continue with a certain increase going forward, we believe.
