Norwegian firms now own over half of wind power
Key Points
  • Norwegian public companies now own over half of Norway's wind power capacity.
  • Foreign ownership share has fallen below 42 percent from two-thirds a few years ago.
  • Eight of the ten largest wind farms are now Norwegian-owned, with Eviny playing a key role.

Eviny's recent acquisitions, including in Rogaland, have contributed to this shift, making eight of the ten largest wind farms Norwegian-owned. Municipalities, counties, and the state are behind the national acquisitions, officials said. Of the ten largest wind farms, only Øyfjellet and Roan still have predominantly foreign ownership.

Øyfjellet, the largest wind farm in Norway, is owned by international investment funds managed from Germany. The foreign ownership share of Norwegian wind power is now below 42 percent.
