Lars Mæland takes over the role from Per Arne Botnan, who has chosen to step down after two decades with the association. Mæland comes from the position of development manager at Olympiatoppen Østlandet and has over 15 years of experience from top sports and development environments, both as a coach and leader. He previously served as a physical trainer for the men's national alpine skiing team for five years.
The coaching staff is undergoing a complete overhaul. Patrick Oberegger, the current national team coach for women, will become head coach for the men's team, while Anders Øverby, the success coach of the recruitment national team, will be assistant coach for the men's team. Sverre Olsbu Røiseland, who recently announced he was finished as German national team coach, takes over the women's team, with former cross-country skier Marthe Kristoffersen entering as assistant coach.
None of the old coaches continue in the same role; the only one remaining from the old coaching team is Patrick Oberegger, but he switches to leading the men's team. It was already clear that the men's national team biathlon coach Siegfried Mazet is not continuing, as he is returning to France. In other Nordic sports news, Anders Byström is finished as national team manager for the Swedish cross-country skiing national team.
Meanwhile, the Wanda Diamond League event in Doha is scheduled to take place as planned on May 8. Diamond League is continuously monitoring the situation in Doha and cooperating closely with Qatar's sports association. A final decision is announced to come by April 8 at the latest.
