Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård said the background for the new regulation is an 'overestablishment' in the taxi industry, with several international actors changing working conditions. Commission arrangements lead to drivers spending more time behind the wheel to earn enough money. Nygård described 'cowboy' conditions in the industry and said the regulation will contribute to a serious taxi industry safe for customers.
If rules are not followed, a license may be lost. Internal controls will help ensure payment to drivers, with payments via Vipps, cash, or card registered in systems. 'That way we get control over the money flows,' Nygård said.
We have experienced 'cowboy' conditions in the industry.
The goal is better overview and equal competition conditions. The chair of the Norwegian Taxi Association, Øystein Trevland, is satisfied with the new requirements but emphasized that authorities must assist in the cleanup. He expressed concern about how county municipalities will follow up internal controls in cars operated by central companies based in Oslo but operating nationwide.
It will contribute to a serious taxi industry that is safe for customers.
If the rules are not followed, it may be that you lose the license.
That way we get control over the money flows.
