Lars Marius Heggberget and Thomas Horn have been nominated as new Supreme Court justices by the nomination council, with appointments to be formally made by the King in Council after being sent to the Ministry of Justice. Heggberget and Horn are scheduled to start their jobs in the autumn, filling vacancies created by retiring justices Per Erik Bergsjø and Wenche Elizabeth Arntzen. Heggberget is currently the municipal attorney in Trondheim municipality.
He has been blind since 2015 after losing vision in his other eye, having previously lost sight in one eye at age 18 due to glaucoma and other eye diseases. Thomas Horn comes from a position as lawyer and partner at Advokatfirmaet Schjødt AS. He earned a doctorate in 2015 and has background as a deputy judge.
The Supreme Court states that the process for appointing new Supreme Court justices involves the Chief Justice submitting a statement on the nomination to the Minister of Justice and cannot comment on applicants before that. Kjetil Kolsrud, responsible editor and managing director of Rett24, finds this an exciting nomination and sees it as a sign of the times that a person with such a disability is nominated to be a Supreme Court justice.
