Kartverket measured water levels in Naurstad, Misværfjorden, and Rognan during the period 2024–2025. Previously, only a few days of measurement data from 1992 existed for the entire fjord system inside Saltstraumen. Section leader Nicolien Haasbroek said the measurements show that the tide is nearly two hours delayed from Bodø to Skjerstadfjorden through Saltstraumen.
The difference between high and low tide in Skjerstadfjorden is only 65 percent of the difference in Bodø. Previously, it was not possible to calculate the tide in Misværfjorden; with the new measurements, this is now possible. The cause of the tidal delay and reduction is the shape of Saltstraumen, which is narrow and shallow compared to the fjord system inside.
Meanwhile, North Norwegian power companies demand action regarding the power crisis in the region. Statnett has stopped new large industry in the north due to fear of power collapse. The power companies demand faster case processing and simpler concession processes for grid and power development.
They also demand that the gas plant on Melkøya in Hammerfest be periodically operated by the gas power plant to relieve the power grid, even if that plant is electrified. April was the warmest ever measured in Northern Norway, according to Meteorologisk institutt. Measurements started in 1901.
