After the murder of an ambulance paramedic in Harmånger, ambulance staff have demanded to know more about the patient they will meet before they respond. According to sources, a new warning system and improved information sharing will be introduced next week to increase the safety of ambulance staff in Västernorrland. The system, called Observandum, has been developed so that relevant information about a patient's history or threat level reaches the staff before they enter a residence.
The warning system flags people who have previously been threatening or violent, giving ambulance staff a clearer picture in advance of what risks may exist at the location. " There are also suggestions for handling the situation, which in some cases may be to wait for police before entering, to reduce the risk of ending up in a dangerous situation themselves. The system will also be able to flag if a person has a care plan that deviates from the usual guidelines, so that the person can get the right help directly.
What is there then is a description of the incident, so that one can read in plain text what has happened previously.
How exactly the Observandum system will integrate with existing emergency response protocols remains unclear. The timeline for full implementation beyond next week's introduction has not been specified.
