A new underground section of Gothenburg Central station will be ready for trains to roll in by December. The station features two 250-meter-long platforms, four tracks, and 30 escalators. It will initially serve as a stop for regional commuter trains, relieving the current central station.
The Centralen stage of the Västlänken project is nearly two kilometers long, starting at the bridge east of the E6, passing through Gullberget, and ending at Lilla Bommen. Two new station buildings, Grand Central and Park Central, will also be built. A reporter commented that the station feels more like Stockholm than Gothenburg, to which the construction manager responded that it is a bit nicer there.
