According to sources, the brochures aim to strengthen radiation protection for those working in socially important operations during a radiological emergency, such as after a nuclear power accident. Municipalities, regions, and companies across the country are affected by the new brochures. The materials target operations that normally do not handle ionizing radiation, including healthcare, ambulance services, police, home care, and personnel in transport, infrastructure, property management, and water and sewage operations.
The purpose of the brochures is to increase knowledge among employers and employees. The material provides guidance on work environment responsibility, rights for employees, and how to practically protect oneself against radiation. The County Administrative Board is obligated to provide support to actors in the county with employees who may need to work after an incident with releases, where protective measures apply to the public.
In the brochures, there is support for that work.
' The brochures are available in digital form and can be printed. They were developed by the Radiation Safety Authority in collaboration with the county administrative boards in Halland, Kalmar, Uppsala, and Västerbotten, as well as the Agency for Civil Protection (formerly MSB). Employers are responsible for ensuring that employees who may work during a radiological emergency have adequate radiation protection.
' During spring 2026, the authorities will hold a series of digital seminars for various affected target groups, with information and support on personnel radiation protection.
We recommend that the work with personnel radiation protection is followed up in the systematic work environment work and that employers ensure that newly hired employees who may be affected know where the information is.
