Region Östergötland is set to open a new blood donation unit in central Norrköping this autumn to increase blood supply for hospitals and improve preparedness. According to reports, the new facility will be located at Vattengränden 14, just a few hundred meters from the train station. The initiative aims to facilitate blood donation for both existing and new donors while strengthening the region's long-term ability to meet healthcare needs for blood.
Blood is a perishable commodity that only lasts about six weeks and cannot be artificially produced, making regular donations essential for medical treatments including cancer care, surgeries, childbirth, and emergency situations. The central location was chosen to attract more donors, with officials noting that many people pass through the area daily, providing good opportunities to recruit new donors and retain existing ones.
