Sainsbury's Nectar cardholders can now swap their points for discounts on Uber taxis, takeaways, and trains through a new partnership, the UK's biggest coalition loyalty scheme teaming up with Uber to let shoppers turn their Nectar balance into real-life treats. This is the first and only time Nectar has partnered with a ride-hailing platform. Customers can use rewards for rail tickets, lifts home, pizzas, and grocery deliveries from Sainsbury's, with points convertible for Uber or Uber Eats vouchers through the Nectar app.
From 500 to 4,000 Nectar points at a time can be converted, and the lower end of points (500) can be racked up in as little as two weeks based on the average UK household food spend. Alongside Uber and Uber Eats, Nectar points can be spent at Sainsbury's, Asos, Deliveroo, Very, Wickes, and Currys. Nectar points can be earned across hundreds of major brands including eBay, Argos, Esso, and British Airways, and Nectar has 24 million members who can collect and spend points at over 500 big-brand partners.
It is not known when exactly the partnership launched or became available to customers, nor whether there are any restrictions or blackout dates for using Nectar points on Uber services. The conversion rate for Nectar points to Uber vouchers compared to other redemption options has not been disclosed.
