A new EU-wide survey has revealed that nearly one in three women in the European Union has experienced some form of violence during their lifetime. According to the survey conducted by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), 30.7 percent of women reported experiencing physical and/or sexual violence after the age of 15.
The survey, which interviewed over 100,000 women between 2020 and 2024, found that nearly one in ten women reported being physically injured by their partner. More than one in six women (17.2 percent) reported experiencing sexual violence or other sexual attacks.
The findings, reported by news agency AFP and published in Swedish media on March 3, 2026, highlight the ongoing prevalence of violence against women across EU member states. The survey represents one of the most comprehensive studies on the topic conducted in recent years.
