MoDo coach Fredrik Andersson suspended for first playoff game

Key Points
  • Fredrik Andersson is suspended for MoDo's first playoff game against AIK.
  • He received his second match penalty of the season, reportedly for gestures in a game against Almtuna.
  • If he gets another match penalty in the playoffs, he could face a two-game suspension.

Fredrik Andersson, the head coach of MoDo, will not be behind the bench for the team's first quarterfinal game against AIK. He has reportedly received his second match penalty of the season, leading to a one-game suspension. According to reports, the penalty occurred in a match between Almtuna and MoDo, where Andersson made gestures that were not appreciated by the referees, resulting in a match penalty at the final whistle.

Almtuna won that game 2-1. This is his second match penalty this season, with the first reportedly coming against Troja/Ljungby earlier in January. Under the rules, two match penalties result in a one-game suspension for a coach, which also applies in the playoffs.

If Andersson receives another match penalty during the playoffs, he would reportedly face a two-game suspension. Björn Wettergren, the head of referees, confirmed the suspension to Expressen. Andersson took over as head coach after Mattias Karlin was fired, and MoDo finished fourth in the regular season.

The quarterfinal series against AIK is set to begin in about a week.
