Michael 'Venom' Page faces Sam Patterson at UFC London's O2 Arena on Saturday in his first fight on home soil since joining UFC. Page has admitted his frustrations with UFC matchmaking stem from plans involving Carlos Prates. In December, Page voiced his disappointment that he had asked for a fight, only to be told the UFC already had plans for his proposed opponent.
Page has revealed that Carlos Prates was the fighter he had cryptically spoken about. Prates knocked out former welterweight champion Leon Edwards in November. Prates is still without a fight, though rumours have circulated this week that he could face Conor McGregor next.
It's obviously part of the frustrations. But I used to say the same thing when I was at Bellator, and it's no matter where you put me on the card, I am the main event.
Page was left feeling somewhat disappointed following his positioning on the UFC London card. Luke Riley reckons Page has every justification to feel disappointed by the decision on his card placement. Page said, 'It's obviously part of the frustrations.
' He added, 'It was confusing. ' Regarding Prates, Page explained, 'I tweeted about it just before they fought, Leon [Edwards] vs Prates. ' That was just me saying that beforehand.
It was confusing. Initially, I just found it very, very strange, disrespectful and strange.
Obviously what happened happened [Prates knocked out Edwards in November]. '' He continued, 'In that moment, it was kind of annoying to hear, especially considering this man had stepped one leg out of the cage, and they already have the next step for him! '' Page further stated, 'What??
That's what I'm trying to say. It's weird that you had plans for him, and now there's confusion in the plans. ' Saturday evening's event will be headlined by a featherweight encounter between Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy.
