Jazmin Paez submitted a request to the satirical website Rentahitman, providing photos of the child and his exact location. The Rentahitman website is a parody, but its owner, Robert Innis, forwards credible requests to law enforcement. Paez was arrested in July 2023 after Innis alerted authorities.
She confessed to solicitation of first-degree murder, unlawful use of a communications device, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Paez faced up to 40 years in prison but received a plea deal from prosecutors avoiding immediate prison time. She received a suspended sentence with conditions including two years of community service, 12 years of probation, mandatory behavioral therapy, and a ban on contacting the child until 2040.
Paez has lost her parental rights to the child. Paez is reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia, which was considered during legal proceedings. Assistant State Attorney Ayana Duncan said Paez was ill-equipped to be a parent and that a failed relationship may have been a catalyst for the plot.
It remains unknown what specific conditions Paez must meet to avoid being registered as a felon, who currently has custody of the child, and what evidence beyond the website request was presented in court.
