Meteorological spring has arrived in Piteå, Norrbotten, Sweden. Piteå is the first municipality in Norrbotten to achieve meteorological spring, which occurs when the daily mean temperature exceeds zero degrees Celsius for seven consecutive days. According to SVT meteorologist Pererik Åberg, this is unusually early.
SMHI meteorologist Magdalena Folestad confirmed that Piteå is the only municipality in Norrbotten with spring so far, noting that one location in Västerbotten also has it. She said it is relatively early, but spring arrived even earlier in 2021, on February 25. The ice rink in Piteå closed on March 13.
